If you are always thinking about what the next thing is, you can make using the ingredients you have, then you are indeed just like me!
All you care about is being able to provide healthy options for your family but at the same time delicious enough for them to want to continue this healthy snacking habit.
Which leads me the recipes I would like to share, they are easy but diverse snacks using Zizira’s Winter Honey.
Why are they called Winter Honey?
These three infusions are limited to the winter season. We have experienced that our honey infusions tend to ferment in the summer, as Raw Honey is the main ingredient.
Raw Honey from Meghalaya tends to have a higher moisture content compared to Honey from elsewhere.
Therefore, limiting Zizira to provide these infusions in the winter only! And a perfect time to try out the following healthy snacks recipes to impress your family this Holiday season. 🥳
Zizira’s Three Winter Honey Infusions
Roselle infused Honey
Mawsynram honey infused with dried roselle calyces. Turns Honey into a rich ruby red colour and the colour is not the only thing that is so mesmerizing about this Honey. It has a sweet and tart taste, making you crave for this flavour and taste from time to time.
Turmeric Twist Honey
This infusion is between Mawsynram honey, golden spice (Lakadong Turmeric, black pepper and ginger. Making it a little spicy but so soothing for the throat and a perfect way to include these healthy ingredients in your daily diet.
Bhut Jolokia infused Honey
The bhut jolokia chilli flakes are soaked in Mawsynram honey, where it brings out a spicy and sweet taste of the Honey. A lovely piece of this red chilli is placed right in the middle of this whole infusion.
Infused Honey Granola. A single recipe using any winter infused Honey.
This is my favourite one and by far the easiest one too! It is so flexible that you can include only ingredients that you like 😊.
You would need the following ingredients (I have suggested some options for you as well):
- 4 cups rolled oats or puffed rice or flat rice
- 1 cup raw nuts and/or seeds, here you can add a mixture of several nuts and seeds like almonds, cashews, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- ½ cup olive oil
- ½ cup Turmeric Twist honey or Roselle infused Honey, or Bhut Jolokia infused Honey
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Oh! Do not forget that depending on the infusion honey you decide to use will determine the flavour and taste of your granola.
Before you begin prepping the ingredients, make sure you Pre-heat the oven at 180°C.
Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, nuts and/or seeds, so here I added raisins too, salt and cinnamon. Stir all the ingredients together and make sure they are well blended.
Pour in the oil, honey infusion and vanilla extract. Then give it a good mix one more time, until every oat and nut is lightly coated.
Prepare a baking tray, by lining it with baking paper, then pour the granola onto your tray and spread it out in an even layer. Put it in the oven and bake until lightly golden, for about 20 to 25 minutes.
When the time is up, let the granola cool completely, undisturbed (for at least 45 minutes).
I broke the granola into pieces with my hands, you can do this if you want to retain big chunks. After, you have had your share for the day, store the granola in an airtight container at room temperature.
You can enjoy this snack at any time of the day, have it for breakfast with milk or drizzle it with the honey infusions, not together I meant pick one 😁
I became a little addicted once I start munching on these😁 I had to stop myself from having more.
So, let us see what is lined up next on the list of healthy snacks to impress our family.
Roselle Pancakes using Roselle infused Honey
Who said Pancakes are just meant for breakfast 😃? I eat pancakes when I want to eat pancakes. 😁 Which qualifies this recipe of my Roselle infused Honey Pancakes, onto this list.
To make your Roselle infused honey pancakes all you need are:
- 2 cups of flour
- 2 level teaspoons of Roselle infused Honey
- 1 ½ tablespoon of white sugar to taste
- 3 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 1/4 Cup of Milk or water if you do not prefer milk
- 1 egg or 1 tablespoon of Peanut butter if you do not want to use eggs
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3½ teaspoon baking powder
Grab a large bowl, to it add your flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. You can sift these ingredients to get a more refined and fluffier pancake, but if you are always in a hurry like I am then, not sifting will also give you the same taste.
Make a well in the centre of your dry ingredients and then pour in your milk, egg, melted butter and roselle honey. Mix these ingredients to form a smooth batter. Now, you heat up your non-stick pan or iron skillet, you can either use oil or butter to add to your pan, over high heat. I would use butter to enhance the flavour. Pour your batter on to your pan, about a ¼ cup for each pancake.
To know when to flip your pancakes, I usually wait for the bubbles to form and then flip them.
Lastly, you can either serve them hot or put them in an airtight container and heat them up when you or your family are ready to eat. Drizzle some more of the Roselle infused Honey and add some nuts or berries on the top.
This is one fun, healthy snack recipe for you and your family to enjoy 😋
And next up we have a spicy-sweet one.
Sweet and Spicy Seeds and Nuts using Bhut Jolokia infused Honey.
When you buy nuts or seeds from the store, sometimes you wish they were less spicy or are spicier, or Oh man! You wish they did not add so much salt.
This is a lovely healthy snack recipe that you can turn to anytime you are feeling those hungry jitters coming on and that too, with right amount of ingredients as preferred by you.
To make your very own Sweet and Spicy nuts and seeds healthy snack recipe, you need the following ingredients.
2 cups of nuts and seeds. You can use as many options as possible, I am using some cashews, walnuts, peanuts, almonds, and sunflower seeds. A few options are better than too many, but you can also have it your way.
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ½ a teaspoon of black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon of ground cumin
- ½ a cup of Bhut Jolokia infused Honey
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter
- ¼ cup of hot water
Go get one of your large bowls again 😊, add all your nuts and seeds here, then add salt, pepper and cumin. In another small bowl, pour in your bhut jolokia infused Honey, water, and melted butter, stir the syrup and pour it into your bowl of nuts and seeds.
Once your nuts and seeds are glazed, pop it into the oven for 15mins at 180°C and make sure you take it out in between and stir it up a bit, and pop it back in to complete baking it.
Once done, let it cool and store it in an airtight container and you can grab some sweet and spicy nuts and seeds anytime you want.
For our final recipe, we are using our Turmeric Twist Honey.
